Meet the Founder – Sharmila Kamte

Meet the Founder

Sharmila Kamte.

Sharmila Kamte is a visionary force in dance, with over twenty five years of international experience as a dancer, choreographer, director and instructor. Born in New Delhi and trained at the Anna Pavlova Ballet School and London's Legat School of Classical Ballet, her career has taken her across the UK, India, France, Australia, Greece, Egypt, Morocco and beyond, working on music videos, live concerts, award shows and large scale stage productions.

A pioneer of the Dubai dance scene, Sharmila first built her community at DUCTAC, where she taught for twelve years and mentored over five hundred students. When DUCTAC closed, she founded her own home, the Sharmila Dance Center in Al Barsha, three studios dedicated to the craft.

At the heart of her mission is one belief. Dance should be enjoyed and accessible to everyone.

Questions

Frequently asked.

01Do I need any dance experience to join?

Not at all. Most of our members started with zero experience. Every style has a beginner path in, and our instructors are trained to teach first timers as well as advanced dancers in the same room.

02What style should I start with?

It depends on what you want to feel. Ballet builds your foundation. Hip hop and reggaeton get you grooving fast. Heels build confidence. We recommend trying two or three styles to find your match.

03Can I cancel my membership any time?

Yes. Monthly memberships can be cancelled any time from your account. No contracts, no calls, no exit fees.

04What ages do you teach?

We teach all ages. Our kids programmes run from four to sixteen across three age groups, and our adult classes welcome everyone from teens upward, all levels.

05Can I rewatch a class after it has finished?

Yes. Every class you attend, live or in studio, stays in your library so you can rewatch any time. You can also access our full on demand catalogue whenever you want.

06How does the correction community work?

Film yourself dancing a class or a piece you are working on, send it by wetransfer or google drive by email on sdconline@sharmiladance.com or watsapp it to +971508581084, and one of our instructors will send you a personalised video back with feedback, corrections and what to work on next.

07Can I book private sessions with a specific instructor?

Yes. Once you have a membership, you can browse our instructors and book one on one sessions directly by messaging our watsapp +971508581084 or you can email us through sdconline@sharmiladance.com.
